Dana Kinnard Counseling

Meet Dana

My philosophy
I understand asking for help can be difficult and often takes courage but I know it is a giant step forward toward achieving those positive changes you want in your life.  Beginning with our first session, my goal is to support you, and help you identify and let go of old negative thoughts, feelings and behavior patterns that no longer work and keep you feeling stuck and unhappy. Change is hard, but happiness is worth the effort.

My education and professional credentials
I have been a professional counselor and certified hypnotherapist
for 20+ years.  I received my Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 1995, my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling from NOVA Southeastern University in 1998, and completed my training as a Certified Hypnotherapist in 1993.

My credentials also include National Counselor Certification (NBCC).
I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and a Qualified Supervisor for Mental Health Interns by the State of Florida.

A little about me
I was born in Tennessee, raised in Atlanta, and moved to Ft. Myers in 1989 so do not be surprised by my southern accent.  I have experienced my share of ups and downs including some very painful events in my own life.  I’ve been married and divorced, survived cancer, and become an empty-nest parent.

I know first hand the benefit of
therapy and how having someone to talk with can really help.  When I was having problems I just couldn't manage on my own, it was such a relief having someone who did not judge me.  Someone who gave me the skills, encouragement and support I needed to make some hard choices in order to find personal happiness.  In fact, the help I received then was a major factor in my decision to become a counselor myself. I truly enjoy working with individuals and couples from all walks of life and appreciate the trust they put in me to help them through difficult times in their lives.
"She (Dana) not only helped me see the whole picture logically but she encouraged me to see that I could get back on my feet..."
