RATES & INSURANCE

Many people will not seek the help they need due to financial issues. I believe that therapy is as important as any other health care service so I have opted to make my rates affordable and offer a sliding scale rather than accepting health insurance for payment.  If you would like to utilize your health insurance I will be happy to provide you with a paid receipt and for your convenience which you can self submit to your insurance carrier for reimbursement or as payment toward your deductable.( Please note that Pre-Certification or Out of Network authorization may be required.)   I accept cash, or personal check, with credit card and prepayment options available through Pay Pal.   Please bring your payment for each appointment.

COUNSELING FEES

Fees are for individuals, couples or family sessions.  Most counseling sessions run approximately 60 minutes.  Many people enjoy having someone they trust to talk with and often prefer to have a longer session time which is easily scheduled.  Others like to keep in touch on a bi-weekly or even monthly basis.  I also offer half sessions when appropriate.  Unlike many traditional therapists I believe it is important to be available to you between sessions.  I am available via text and email, also by phone if you need to touch base or have a problem you need to briefly discuss, and I do not charge for this service.  My standard fee is $100.00 however I offer several discounts and a sliding scale for those with financial difficulties.  Please give me a call to discuss your situation.

* Issues with Insurance you need to know.

In today’s managed care insurance market, all reimbursable medical services, including counseling, must be deemed “medically necessary”.

In order to justify your need for counseling and payment by your insurance carrier;
- I will be required to provide you with a psychiatric diagnosis (meaning you have a    mental health condition or illness).
- This information will also go into your insurance medical file and likely remain on your medical history long term.
- Your insurance company, not you, will determine if you need counseling, who you
    can see, & how many sessions you may attend.

In addition, your confidentiality may be at risk since all people who handle and review your claim will have access to your records.  Normally this information is transmitted and filed online, however security measures are required by law.

Your Privacy

Your therapy records are considered protected health information (PHI) and as such are governed by specific federal, state and local laws and regulations.  Confidentially is generally maintained and may not be discussed or released to others without your express written permission, with with the following exceptions;

* Information you authorize to be shared (examples; with your physician, a family
   member, your child's teacher, for EAP claim or other payment processing, etc.),

* Mandated reporting of suspected abuse of children or the elderly,

* If you report intent to do bodily harm to yourself or others, and

* When required by law, through court subpoena or other documented legal request.

Counseling can have many benefits like; having someone you can trust to talk to about problems, feeling better about yourself, understanding yourself and others better, improving communication and relationships with family and friends, & learning new ways to reduce or overcome conflicts.  However, with change also comes potential risk.  Sometimes when you explore and talk about difficult issues in your life you may experience unpleasant feelings such as sadness, guilt, anger and frustration.  Also, making changes in your life can be scary, not only to you but to those around you.  Friends and family may become upset or confused when you begin acting in new and different ways.  Remember as you change, your personal relationships will likely change too.  These are important factors you understand when deciding whether counseling is right for you.
